We are recruiting for a dynamic, people focused HR Manager to join the team and support the firm’s growth objectives.   

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the HR Manager will provide Generalist expertise in all functional areas of HR including recruitment, planning, performance management, compensation and benefits, conflict solution, employee relations, coaching and counselling.  

Our ideal candidate has proven, practical working experience in a professional services environment, ideally a CPA firm, and is comfortable working under pressure and juggling multiple priorities.   

The Human Resource Manager is responsible for all HR functions including performance management, recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development and the development and application of the firm’s HR policies and practices. 

Major Responsibilities: 

Talent Strategy, Culture & Engagement 

  • Works closely with the leadership team to understand business priorities, build and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy.  
  • Establishes relationships and works closely with partners, practice leadership and managers to understand the practice group or department needs and objectives, identifying trends and recommending initiatives and solutions.  
  • Designs the talent brand and employee value proposition. Manages effective talent communication plans and channels firm wide. 
  • Develops new ways to measure employee morale and determines methods for improving overall employee satisfaction.
  • Is an active member of the Fun and Health & Safety Committees. Organizes and coordinates team social events and other Firm-sponsored charitable events. 

Employee Relations 

  • Provides support and guidance to the leadership team when complex or sensitive questions and issues arise.  
  • Resolves conflicts by investigating complaints and concerns, evaluating, and offering possible courses of action, providing advice, and direction.  
  • Coach managers on how to provide feedback to employees.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. 

Talent Attraction & Acquisition 

  • Builds a strong talent pipeline by implementing a talent attraction strategy, leveraging networks for key talent acquisition. 
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified candidates; collaborates with partners and managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. 
  • Supports the university recruitment program.   

Performance Management & Talent Development 

  • Supporting a high-performance culture, participates in the development and maintenance of a performance management system and continuous feedback program.  
  • Collaborates with the leadership team and works with internal and external providers to create learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.  
  • Ensures the success of the development of the firm’s co-op and full-time CPA students and oversees the firms CPA training program. 

Talent Operations 

  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent. 
  • Assists with the administration of the short-term and long-term disability program by maintaining contact with employees.  
  • Maintains fairness and equity in the implementation and administration of the Firm’s HR policies and programs, including benefit and salary administration by interpreting policies, discussing, and consulting and recommending changes.  
  • Review’s policies, practices, and maintains compliance with provincial employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices. 
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by keeping up to date on legislative changes, attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations. Monitors trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

  • Working knowledge of HRIS and talent management systems including the selection and design process.  Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s current HRIS and talent management systems.  

Education and Experience: 

  • Diploma or Certificate in Human Resources Management. 
  • CHRP/CHRL designation is a definite asset (or in progress). Advanced knowledge of the relevant employment and human rights legislation. 
  • Proven working HR experience with a minimum 5-8 years of progressive levels of responsibility. A minimum of two years of HR management experience preferred. 

Physical and Mental Requirements:  

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
